Requests for Class MailServer Lists

Faculty members can request mailserver lists which can be used for e-mail communication with students in a given course.

Please e-mail your requests to
CIT_OA@umassd.edu. Provide the following information in your e-mail request:

1. Specify the type of mailserver (a or b)

a) Mailserver that ONLY the faculty member can post to and be received by all students enrolled in the class.

b) Mailserver that allows the faculty member AND students to send/receive e-mail to all students enrolled in the class.

2. Full course code, including the section number

Note 1:  If you are teaching a course using intralearn/coursebuilder, you may request a list through the coursebuilder site. Please do not duplicate this request by also responding to this message.

Note 2:  Because of the volume of add/drop at the beginning of each semester, the lists will be populated at the end of Add/Drop. The lists will be deleted 2 weeks after final exams without notification.

Special E-Mail Lists

Because all students now have e-mail accounts, e-mail can be used as one means of contacting specific groups of students.  For example, a department chair may want a list to contact the students in a particular major; a dean may need to contact a selected group of students from the college. CITS can make these lists available, or update existing lists, as soon as possible after course mailservers are created.  (Keep in mind that all students may not use their e-mail accounts.)

Please e-mail your requests to CIT_OA@umassd.edu. Provide the following information in your e-mail request:

1.  Type of Mailserver (a or b)

a) Mailserver list where ONLY the person responsible can post to the list and be received by all students who are on the list.

b) Mailserver list that allows the person responsible AND students on the list to send/receive e-mail to the list.

2.  Person responsible for the list

3.  Student population to be selected (e.g., by a college, by a major, by a class, etc.)

Note:  The list will be created at a particular point in time and will not reflect changes made after the creation of the list.  Due to limited resources, we are able to create or update these requested lists once a semester.

The appropriate authority must make the request.

CITS will consult with offices responsible for the student information prior to creating these lists.

If you have questions on any of the items above, please contact Joyce Rosinha at jrosinha@umassd.edu  or x8528.
