Image To all the students, faculty, staff and community members who turned out to meet President Wilson last week, thank you.  Your responses to Dr. Wilsons questions were thoughtful, sincere, and often inspiring, leaving him with a clear vision of this campus aspirations and its importance to the region. I know that he was impressed.

Image College of Nursing Dean Betty Pennington will be retiring at the end of the academic year, leaving us a legacy of excellence, innovation and growth that has set a high standard in nursing education.

Thanks to Bettys leadership, our College of Nursing is known across the Commonwealth as one that prepares students for real world experience, and is responsive to ever-changing health care needs of society. The college's graduate program and hybrid learning initiatives have resulted in our graduates achieving exemplary pass rates on Massachusetts licensure exams. Hospitals and other health care institutions have a high degree of confidence in UMass Dartmouth nursing graduates thanks to her teambuilding, vision and diligence.

Image Ray Jackson, our interim Dean of the Charlton College of Business, is heading back to the faculty once the search for a permanent dean has concluded.  Ray deserves our gratitude for stepping into this leadership position just after the college had gone through the grueling, but successful, accreditation process.  Ray's many years of building mutual respect with his peers enabled him to assure a successful transition into the next phase of the college's evolution

Image If you have seen the latest UMass Dartmouth Alumni Magazine you know that it is more than just an alumni news publication. It is excellent reading material that just so happens to focus on the high quality of our University. The articles in the new issue portray our university as regional in nature but global in perspective. They take us from Afghanistan to the Hubble Space Telescope.   Those involved with this effort Alumni Affairs Director Don Berube, and Publication's Staff Rachel Cocroft, Diane Hartnett, and Mike Mahoney did a terrific job.

Lastly, for the 33rd year, the Student Senate hosted several hundred of the areas senior citizens for dining and dancing at the Senior Citizen's Holiday Party.  Every year, this event is a bright spot for so many of the attendees, who delight in being served a festive meal by UMass student leaders.   After the plates were cleared, I was just amazed to watch several older women teaching the young men how to swing dance.  The University is engaged in many outreach activities, but I believe I can speak for those of us in attendance Saturday that there are few that conjure such good feeling.

Please take a moment to click on a link associated with any of the names above and offer them congratulations for their service to the University.
